Display Hooks

Display hooks are the most versatile accessory for shop display systems such as slat wall and pegboard units.

Display hooks allow stores to showcase items of all shapes and sizes in a manner of different hangsell formations. Ideal for stores that have large amounts of merchandise that are not best suited to traditional shelving, and stores that are looking to maximise their browsing space, display hooks are a welcome addition anywhere from large hardware warehouses to haberdashery market stalls. Hooks come in a variety of styles and sizes, including flipper hooks that can feature information such as product price. They are affordably priced so, whether you require a handful of shop display hooks for a small product range or are looking to make a bulk order for a national chain, get in touch with us now.

What are display hooks?

Display hooks are small metal pronged hooks that slide into the panels of shopfitting systems such as pegboard, slat wall or grid mesh to enable stores to hang products for display in a browser-friendly fashion. Sometimes called display prongs, they are a great space-saving mechanism for arranging packaged goods or small accessories that can easily get lost on standard shelving. The hooks are produced using chrome-plated wire which gives them a long-lasting quality and they come in a range of styles and sizes to suit products of varying weights – from gardening tools such as spades to small plastic packets of screws.

Hooks are fitted with different back plates to make them suitable for either slat, pegboard or mesh wire systems. For each type of system, they slide or clip in and out with ease and with no need for any screwing or hammering. They are kept firmly in place by the grooves or holes in the shelving panels and you can hang multiple items from each hook, which can then be slid easily off or back on by shoppers without disturbing store displays.

Types of display hooks

These display hooks for retail can be roughly broken down into four categories:

Slat wall hooks

These hooks and prongs are designed for slat wall fixtures and fittings such as wall-mounted panels of free-standing gondola units. Slat wall prongs are distinguishable by their solid rectangular back plate with a curved lip at the top that enables them to slide into the metal grooves on slat wall panels. These hooks come in different lengths and are available as standard hooks, heavy duty hooks for larger and bulkier items, and speciality picture hooks that hand individual pictures, frames, mirrors or clocks.

Pegboard hooks

Pegboard hooks in Australia are very popular with modern retail stores of all kinds. These display prongs differ from the slat wall accessories in that, instead of a solid metal back panel for attachment, they have two metal prongs 25.4mm apart which fit into the perforated holes on pegboard systems. They are available in standard, heavy duty and flat metal steel models, as well as loop hook models that prevent packeted items from swinging around on display.

Wire mesh hooks

Wire mesh hooks are designed for grid mesh wire display systems that can be seen in all types of store and are particularly popular with market stalls. The back attachment on grid mesh prongs and hooks has a clip-on feature, either as a solid plate or as two prongs, that allows it to clip over the top of the wire panel on the grid mesh unit. They come in different styles and sizes and are available in black or chrome silver.

Flipper scan hooks

Flipper scan hooks are special hooks designed with an additional clear plastic flipper section for the display of tags containing product price, barcode, or short description. They are available for slat wall, pegboard and wire mesh display systems, with an extra loop hook model available for pegboard.

How to use display hooks

One of the great things about display hooks of all descriptions is how easy they are to use. Thanks to the clever back plate design, they slide or clip in and out of display panels with no fuss at all and stay nicely in place so you won’t have to worry about displays becoming constantly dislodged. If you want to move the hooks, you can slide them along the panels or simply un-clip and then replace in the new desired position. No tools needed.

Displaying merchandise is also refreshingly straightforward. Products that have a strap or hanging mechanism (e.g. bags, necklaces, cables, etc.) can be simply draped over the hooks. Many packaged or packeted items can also be placed on the hooks if they have a hanging strip at the top of the packaging. This is usually either a cardboard or plastic section with a small hole that can be used to slide over the hooks. If products have a wider slit rather than a hole, they can be placed on loop hooks which will keep them more firmly in place.

Display hooks can be used for a wide assortment of merchandise, such as:

  • jewellery products
  • handbags
  • small packets of accessories (e.g. screws)
  • packeted food such as snacks
  • pre-packed clothes
  • boxed toys or games
  • larger tools and equipment such as saws or gardening forks

Where display hooks can be used

Pretty much any sort of retailer can make good use of display hooks as long as they have a retail system of shelving that can accommodate them. Examples of stores that are well-suited to using hooks include:

  • Chemists – tend to sell a wide variety of fast-selling products that can benefit from being lined up in a neat fashion on hooks. Products that can be displayed on hangsell include bandages, plasters and tubes of cream.
  • Electronics stores – can display all sorts of small computer and mobile phone accessories by hangsell, as well as larger boxed and packeted gadgets or products such as headphones or printer cartridges.
  • Sports stores – hangsell with hooks and prongs is great for organising the vast and varied amount of sporting merchandise into smart displays. Equipment that can be placed on hooks ranges from tennis rackets to packets of darts.
  • Grocery stores and newsagents – stores that need to maximise their display areas and prepare for fast stock turnover. Goods such as packeted confectionery, snacks and stationery products are best displayed via hangsell.
  • Hardware stores – can use a variety of different sized hooks and prongs to neatly arrange everything from packets of nuts and bolts to pre-packaged tools.
  • Clothing stores – general clothing stores can mass display pre-packaged items such as shirts, t-shirts and underwear, while niche fashion stores can utilise hooks for stylish bag displays, accessories such as scarves and hats, or quirky jewellery displays.
  • Homeware stores – can display an array of products on standard hooks as well as using smaller picture hooks to arrange displays of clocks or mirrors.

Advantages of display hooks

Display hooks offer several advantages to retailers for little outlay. These include:

  • Practicality – hooks are great for making practical use of shop space. Because so many units can be placed on individual hooks (anything from around 5-20, depending on hook size and product), they maximise retail space and keep stores looking full while at the same time keeping everything in a neat and tidy formation.
  • Versatility – hooks are multi-use, displaying handbags one minute and packets of pens the next so are perfect for stores that sell a diverse or changing range of products. Because of their ease of use, they are also well-suited to retail environments where displays constantly need to be changed.
  • Durability – all hooks are sturdy, well-designed and can last for several years without damaging. Even smaller hooks and prongs can withstand reasonably heavy loads and the chrome-plated finish protects them against knocks and scuffs. Because they are so cheap, display hooks are a good value-for-money purchase.
  • Time-saving – No more rearranging and tidying up messy shelf displays at the end of the day. Goods stay in place much easier when they’re hung from hooks. It also takes the pressure off having to immediately re-stock areas when things sell as you can simply spread out remaining stock along the hook. The neat displays also make it easier for customers to find products they’re looking for.
