Mesh Back Gondola Shelving

Mesh shelving is a great low-cost lightweight shop fitting option that still gives you the flexibility to create tailored displays such as hangsell or wire basket displays. The free-standing gondola shelving bays that come in grid mesh design are similar to slatwall and pegboard in what they can offer, but cheaper and more mobile. Mesh units can be used in retail stores as well as in market stalls and mobile pop-up retail spaces. They come in different styles and sizes to suit different requirements.

What is mesh back gondola shelving?

Mesh shelving systems are lighter in weight that either slatwall or pegboard. The display panel or wall is made out of a metal grid mesh that can be fitted with shelving brackets or an assortment of accessories such as hooks or display baskets. A grid mesh unit is cheaper than alternative models while still retaining the ability to hold medium capacity loads. Grid mesh gondola shelving systems are popular with traders who are looking for flexibility in design together with easily mobile units that can be rearranged easily or transported to other premises.

Where can mesh back gondola display units be used?

Mesh-based systems are compatible with most retail types but are particularly suited to mobile traders who might do a lot of moving about, packing down or pop-up stalls, as well as large stores that need to display a wide variety of produce in vast quantities such as bargain stores or large hardware stores. Examples of stores that can make good use of mesh back display shelving include:

  • Discount stores – can make use of the accessories such as metal prongs to create hangsell displays of discounted packaged goods or wire baskets to sell cheap loose items.
  • Stationers – usually don’t need units with very heavy load bearing capacity, so mesh shelving is well suited to their needs.
  • Market stalls – as the units are lightweight and easy to set up and take apart, mesh systems are very popular with market traders or shops that use outside displays that need to be moved on a regular basis.

What are the benefits of mesh back gondola shelving systems?

Easy to use – mesh gondola units can be assembled and taken apart in minutes, moved around stores with ease and they’re incredibly easy to maintain (just a quick wipe down with a damp cloth).

Versatile – you can add shelves including melamine or glass shelving, plus gondola shelving accessories such as shelf dividers, front fences, wire baskets, hooks and more to build your own displays.

Cost effective – the grid mesh units are among the cheapest on the market, with single-sided gondola units starting at as little as $65.

Types of mesh back gondola shelving

Single-sided units – available as standard (450mm base), narrow aisle (300mm base) or deep base (550mm) in heights from 1500mm to 2100mm.

Double-sided units – also available as standard, narrow aisle and deep base. Great for creating aisles of stock that customers can browse across the store.

End bay units – grid walls that can be attached to the end of double-sided units (including pegboard or slatwall gondola units) to create a special merchandise display e.g. discounted specials. Best suited with the standard 450mm model.
